Although the outdoor soccer season for 2018 has ended, the memories will live on. We can all be proud of the victories and accomplishments achieved throughout the District. We saw soccer teams from across the province play in some very competitive games during the Ontario Summer Games, hosted here in London. Also, our young game officials were well-represented and performed exceptionally on the pitch.
The Youth League (EMDSL) had another great season with events that were well-planned and executed. It was evident from the level of play on the field that skill development was being enhanced. This led to more competitive play. EMDSL has taken the initiative of introducing a new format of play for the Indoor season, and this has attracted teams from other Districts.
The Women’s League had another great season. There was an exhibition of strong competitive play amongst the usual rivals, combined with a high level of camaraderie. The governance of the league continues to be strong under the new Leadership team. Congratulations to all the Division and Cup winners!
The Men’s League, meanwhile, continues to be a competitive hotbed in each division. The usual fierce rivalries were re-ignited this year, and this was evident in most divisions, producing good competitive and entertaining soccer. Congratulations and thanks to coaches, managers and players for your high level of commitment and performance. A very special recognition goes to the Caribbean Stars for their hard work, dedication and fluid style of play which saw them move to Division One after three years of being in the league.
The London Ontario Soccer League (LOSL) had a very competitive and fun-filled season, driven in part by some divisional changes that were implemented. Congratulations to the London Irish Premier and London Irish First Division for winning their respective divisions. Special congratulations to the Yezidi Team for winning the Division 1 Playoffs. And a special thanks to all for their hard work and dedication to the sport of soccer!
The Masters League continues to be another competitive circuit. There were some very strong and fierce rivalries amongst clubs that resulted in some close games. Congratulations to all the winners and participants for another outstanding year.
Finally, a big thank you to players, parents, coaches, managers, spectators and sponsors for their continued involvement in the game of soccer.
